How to Manage Conflict in Your Clinic Team: Free Downloadable Guide

When it comes to managing conflict in a busy clinic, most teams don’t need more rules, they need better tools. That’s where the Conflict Companion Guide comes in.

Whether it's tension between your admin and front desk, or a disagreement between two clinicians with different expectations, this guide helps you understand how your team members approach conflict, and what to do with that insight.

Why Conflict Styles Matter

Imagine Sarah, your energetic admin who jumps into action before meetings are even over. She’s a Catalyst... high energy, optimistic, and driven by action. Now imagine she’s clashing with Dr. Roberts, a detail-oriented Realist who wants every variable considered before making a move.

Conflict isn’t the problem... mismatch is. The Companion Guide helps you decode those mismatches and learn how to flex to meet others halfway.

How to Use the Conflict Companion Guide

Once you’re signed up in the Human Scaffold Resource Hub, here’s how to get started:

1. Go to the Conflict Companion GuideLocate it under the “Choose Your Adventure” tools.

2. Complete the 3-Question Quiz.

It's short but thoughtful. Each question is designed to spark reflection. To help, you’ll find MIKEro Learning videos... short, 75–90 second explainers that clarify the concepts before you answer.

3. Discover Your Profile. Once you complete the quiz, you'll receive a conflict style profile tailored to your responses. This includes:

  • A plain-language overview of your style
  • A downloadable PDF with:
    • Reflection questions to boost self-awareness
    • Tips and next steps to help you communicate more clearly during conflict
    • a "flex factor" that teaches you how to shift gears when collaborating with someone who approaches conflict differently

Use It Solo or With the Team

The guide is completely self-paced, you can do it on your own to reflect, or bring it to your next team meeting as a shared learning activity. Many clinic teams choose to download each other’s profiles and discuss how they might adjust their approach based on what they’ve learned.

You can also use it as a foundation for a facilitated workshop, where we go deeper into clinic-specific conflict challenges and practice real-world scenarios. But even on its own, this tool is a great first step toward better communication.
